Dripping Springs Weather & What To Do in Any Condition

Dripping Springs enjoys a semi-arid climate, with hot summers and mild winters. To better understand the weather patterns, let's look at some key weather indicators.

The average temperature in Dripping Springs varies throughout the year. In the summer you can expect average temperatures around 95°F and an occasional maximum temperature of 112°F, especially in August, the hottest month.

In contrast, the coldest months, January and February, see an average temperature of 38°F but can occasionally be as low as 7°F at night (February 2021 record low). That low temperature isn't too common but be prepared in winter months for anything. We've been known to see some snow and hail, so you really don't know what you're going to get in Texas!

Humidity is an important factor in understanding the overall comfort level. Relative humidity tends to be higher in the morning and lower in the afternoon. On average, Dripping Springs experiences relative humidity ranging from 40% to 90%.

Rain or Shine: What To Do in Dripping Springs

Depending on the time of year when you visit, and what weather you experience the day of your visit, the types of activities that are best vary. Let's cover some of the best things you can do at specific times of year and certain weather conditions.

Rainy Weather

Dripping Springs receives an average of 35 inches of rain annually, with a higher chance of rain occurring in May and September. It can go from moderate rain to extreme in a matter of minutes, so always be prepared! But don't let rainy days dampen your spirits; there are still plenty of activities to enjoy!

Visit the Texas Hill Country Olive Co., where you can do a tour and tasting and learn about olive oil production. Shop for some olive-based products, such as infused olive oils and balsamic vinegar, and even purchase Texas-Theme gift boxes as souvenirs for loved ones. You can also have a delicious lunch at the Bistro, and enjoy your time while the rain is keeping you indoors.

Extremely Hot Weather

During the scorching summer months, when temperatures can soar, it's essential to stay cool. Embrace the refreshing natural beauty of Hamilton Pool Preserve. This scenic swimming hole, created by Hamilton Creek's natural erosion, features a 50-foot waterfall and a collapsed grotto.

Take a dip in the cool waters, surrounded by lush greenery and striking rock formations. Remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and consider visiting during the morning or late afternoon to avoid the peak heat of the day. Also make sure to reserve a spot in advance, as they reach full capacity and book up quickly!

Cloudy Weather

Cloudy days can provide a unique atmosphere for exploring Dripping Springs, even if the cloud cover blocks some of that hill country view. Head to Founders Memorial Park, a serene public park with walking trails, picnic areas, and a charming pond. The cloudy skies create a soft, diffused light that enhances the park's tranquility. Take a leisurely stroll, spot local wildlife, or enjoy a picnic with family and friends. Or take a walk down Mercer Street and shop some of the cute local stores!

Icy/Snowy Weather

Despite freezes and snow that seem to happen at least once a winter now, Texas still doesn't quite know how to handle the cold! Unfortunately, if you are visiting in the winter, and experience a Texas freeze, chances are most businesses will be closed due to road conditions.

If this happens, be safe and try and keep off the roads. There are so many beautiful neighborhoods to walk through, and a quiet walk in a Texas winter isn't a bad option when all else fails. Just make sure to stay at a hotel or home rental in an area you'd be happy to walk around in.
