Bourbon Balsamic Old Fashioned

Summer is here, and she brought one of our favorite days of the year with her: National Bourbon Day, and what better day is there to share our newest Bourbon Balsamic recipe.

It may sounds strange... Balsamic Vinegar in a cocktail, even more strange Balsamic Vinegar in an Old Fashioned. If you haven't jumped ship yet just hear me out: what pairs better with Bourbon than more Bourbon?   

Using our Bourbon Barrel Aged Balsamic Vinegar, locally produced Small Batch Bourbon from Garrison Brothers, rich Demerara pure cane sugar, and aromatic bitters this Old Fashioned recipe will not disappoint. From the experienced Bourbon connoisseur to those who are just dipping their toes in the Whiskey pool, the Bourbon Balsamic Old Fashioned is a fun twist on a timeless, classic cocktail. With its perfectly balanced array of flavors, the Bourbon Balsamic Old Fashioned will transport you to another era in time. So follow along with these simple steps that will make even the at-home bartender the star of the next cocktail party.

Bourbon Balsamic Old Fashioned

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Syrup Yield: 4 cups

 Ingredients for the Old Fashioned:

  • 2 oz Garrison Brothers Small Batch or preferred Bourbon
  • .25 oz Bourbon Balsamic Demerara Syrup
  • 3 Dashes Orange Bitters
  • 3 Dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Aged cherries

Ingredients for the Bourbon Balsamic Syrup:

Old Fashioned Instructions:

  1. Prepare a chilled rocks glass with one large ice cube.
  2. In a mixing vessel, add bourbon, Bourbon Balsamic syrup, orange bitters and Angostura bitters.
  3. Add ice cubes and stir with a bar spoon until you see condensation around the top of the wash-line.
  4. Strain the mixture into the prepared rocks glass.
  5. For the garnish, express an orange peel over the drink, rubbing it around the rim of the glass before placing inside glass with two aged cherries.

Bourbon Balsamic Demerara Syrup Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan add Demerara sugar, water, and Bourbon Balsamic Vinegar and mix together.
  2. Over low-medium heat, bring to a low simmer, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Pour into a glass container and cool completely before putting on the lid. 
  4. Store in an airtight container, in the fridge, for up to two weeks.
